Passage: Psalm 30:4-7
Duration: 25 mins 8 secs
The rhythm of life is an ebb and flow, ups and downs, good and bad. We don’t exist without the good and the bad. The Psalmist in chapter 3 is in a season of night time. He is sick, his adversaries are ready to pounce and he feels God has abandoned him. He is moved to tears. Tears are a natural outpouring of grief and the heart’s way of speaking when there are no words. We should reflect on our tears to discover their meaning. We will find that tears are an expression of grief, absence or loss. The loss of becoming an empty-nester, dreams not realized, or the loss of a loved one no longer on our journey may all cause real grief. Give yourself permission to cry. Crying gives you relief from your grief. But don’t allow your grief to grow into dysfunction. Dysfunctional grief can lead to overeating, smoking, isolating one’s self and even worse. When grief is unhealthy that means you haven’t yet dealt with your grief. Guard against unhealthy grief by first, acknowledging that you are still here. God’s gift to you is the gift of life, and you can choose to rejoice. Rejoice because since you are still here and God can do anything. God’s favor, grace, love and mercy are with you. Grief did not overcome you. Secondly, remember that tears don’t last forever. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes with the morning. Lastly, know that each morning brings something new. Joy is available; a new lease on life is possible. Not just happiness, which is external, but joy. Joy comes from within. It comes from having a relationship with Jesus. Because we are His children he blesses us just because we are his. We just have to hold out until morning.’
