Part-Time
Mount Olive Baptist Church is seeking a Communications Associate to create and implement an effective communication strategy for the dissemination of information and resources to its congregation and the broader community.
Primary duties will include but not be limited to the following:
a. Creating and posting relevant content on the church website and other social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Tiktoc, etc.)
b. Producing all communications media. These most notably currently include a weekly e-newsletter, social media postings, various brochures, and event flyers. This includes print and digital formats.
c. Cultivating social media presence using Mt Olive social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
d. Work with graphics designer to create digital and print materials for Sunday worship, social media, email communication for all church events. This includes the creation and producing of communication pieces such as postcards, invitations, etc.
e. Maintain Communications calendar coordinating so that communications are ready at the launch of church ministry activities.
f. Recruit and work with volunteers to create a Communications ministry informs the church and community to relevant events taking place in the community and within Mt. Olive.
g. Take a proactive approach to planning media content.
h. Perform other communications-related duties as requested.
i. Assure that photographs are taken which capture the life of Mount Olive, as events take place and posting of such photos and other digital media on the church website and social media platforms.
j. Write and distribute press releases to alert the media of upcoming events; submit events to appropriate online calendars.
k. Analyze revenue and program cost data to determine budget priorities for the Communications Ministry.
l. Keeping abreast of current communications trends and making recommendations to improve and enhance the church’s overall communication strategy and tools.
m. Developing policies and protocols related to church communications.
Level of Responsibility: The incumbent of this position can work independently in conjunction with the ministerial staff and ministry leaders. The Communications Associate, under the direction of the Pastor or his designee, establishes deadlines so that the work can be accomplished in accordance with Church policies and/or accepted practices. Work may be reviewed to ensure that the overall objectives are met.
Level and Nature of contacts: The incumbent has contact with the ministerial staff including the Senior Pastor and the Assistant Pastor. The Communications Specialist works closely with the Minister of Worship and Arts and the Media Ministry to promote Mt Olive events to the community. They also have regular contact with the leadership of the various ministries of the church as needed to develop communication materials for promoting ministry events. The Communications Associate will coordinate the activities of the Communications ministry which is comprised of volunteers.
Location: The position is located in Arlington, Virginia, however many functions may be performed remotely. The successful candidate must be available to attend in-person staff meetings and retreats, ministry meetings, and church functions as needed.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Graphic Arts or related field*
E d Experience developing print and digital design marketing materials.
· Knowledge and Experience in utilizing social media and technology to carry out the marketing/communications goals of the congregation.
· Demonstrated strong writing skills.
· Demonstrated knowledge of design, editing and desktop publishing software. Is proficient in software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and InDesign.
· Possess good interpersonal skills to build relationships.
· Availability to attend scheduled staff meetings and other ministry meetings as needed to understand the communications needs for upcoming events.
· Flexible and able to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
· Experience working with volunteers.
· Experience designing communications in a church or non-profit organization is preferred.
*Bachelor’s degree may be substituted by significant evidence of experience in the field of marketing and communications.
Compensation: The Salary range for this position is $30,000 - $35,000 per year depending on experience. As a part time position, the Communications Associate position is not eligible for benefits.
