Minister of Christian Education
Mount Olive Baptist Church is seeking a Minister of Christian Education who will execute the vision and ministry goals of the congregation by designing, developing and implementing a comprehensive Christian education and formation ministry for the church. The Minister of Christian Education shall oversee this ministry area to include, but not limited to the following:
a. Coordinate activities with religious advisers, councils, and university officials to meet religious needs of congregation. Develop, organize, and direct study courses and religious education programs within congregation.
b. Solicit support, participation, and interest in religious education programs from congregation members, organization, officials, and clergy.
c. Develop and implement curriculum appropriate for various demographics (age, gender etc.)
d. Oversee the selection and distribution of educational materials.
e. Analyze revenue and program cost data to determine budget priorities.
f. Analyze member participation and changes in congregation emphasis to determine needs for religious education.
g. Plan and conduct conferences dealing with interpretation of religious ideas and convictions.
h. Plan congregational activities and projects to encourage participation in religious education programs.
i. Supervise instructional staff in religious education program.
j. Based on identified vision, goals, directives and training needs assessments, develop or secure necessary training materials and modules for the various church leaders.
k. Oversee Library/Resource Center to include coordinating and supporting volunteers, recommending purchases, and maintaining materials and equipment;
l. Serve as education resource and advisor to leaders of church programs.
m. Establish and set goals, develop policies and procedures for the Christian Education Ministry
n. Supervise personnel and volunteers working within the Christian Education Ministry
o. Develop a viable Church School Ministry in conjunction with the Superintendent of Sunday School.
p. Organize, implement, and promote age and gender specific, and specialty ministries (i.e., Men’s Ministry, Sisters of the True Vine (Women’s) Ministry, Elderlites (Senior) Ministry, Young Adult Ministry)
q. Participate in Church programs and perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
Level of Responsibility: The incumbent of this position can work independently in conjunction with the Pastor. The Minister of Christian Education, under the supervision of the Pastor, sets the overall objectives and priorities of the work and establishes deadlines so that the work can be accomplished in accordance with Church policies and/or accepted practices. Work may be reviewed to ensure that the overall objectives are met. The incumbent uses initiative and discretion in interactions with staff, congregation, and visitors. The incumbent must possess a high degree of integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Level and Nature of contacts: The incumbent has contact with the Senior Pastor, Assistant Pastor, ministerial staff, Church Office staff, Church Clerk, and ministry leaders, congregants and visitors.
Special skills, knowledge, or training: The incumbent must have the knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects to devise Christian Education curriculum and oversight of curriculum. The incumbent must have the ability to speak to others to effectively convey information and to reach all learning styles. The incumbent must be able to evaluate, select and/or develop materials based on the needs of the Church, recognizing the skills, callings, and abilities of its members. In addition, the successful candidate must have knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources to provide leadership and direction to the Church’s entire Christian education ministry. The incumbent must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and teaching skills, leadership ability, management, and organizational skills, administrative and facilitation skills, as well as the ability to delegate, motivate, and plan.
Qualities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Master of Divinity degree from an Association of Theological Schools of North America (ATS) accredited institution or has earned a Bachelor’s degree and is currently enrolled in a Master of Divinity degree program at an ATS accredited institution
Licensed and/or ordained minister.
Familiarity with and knowledge of the Christian faith and Baptist heritage
Must have knowledge of and experience in utilizing social media and distance learning techniques to carry out ministry objectives.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated strong administrative/organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to teach Biblical principles
Availability to attend scheduled staff meetings and planning retreats
Have strong team building skills
Demonstrated ability to build relations with youth, parents, ministerial staff, ministry heads, and community
Compensation: The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 per year depending on experience. As a part time position, the Minister of Christian Education post is not eligible for benefits.
