Dear Church Family,

We are pleased to announce a Call for Deacons, both women and men, at Mount Olive Baptist Church. As we seek to strengthen our ministry and serve our congregation more effectively, we turn to the scriptures for guidance on this important role.

According to Acts 6:3, the early church appointed deacons to assist in serving the community’s needs, allowing the apostles to focus on prayer and the ministry of the Word. This tradition continues today as we recognize the vital role deacons play in supporting the Pastor and the ministerial staff in carrying out the church’s mission and ensuring that we care for one another in a meaningful way.

In addition, 1 Timothy 3:8-11 provides qualifications and characteristics for deacons, emphasizing the importance of integrity, respect, and faithfulness. These scriptural guidelines help us identify individuals who can serve with wisdom, compassion, and dedication.

We invite you to prayerfully consider whether you or someone you know is willing to serve in this significant ministry.

If you feel led to serve as a deacon or wish to nominate a sister or brother for this position, please submit your nomination to the Deacon’s Ministry by August 25, 2024. Nomination forms are available from the Ushers or found online.  Completed forms may be submitted online at www.mtolivebc.org/deacons (see below) or returned to an Usher any Sunday during worship.  Nominees will be interviewed and evaluated during the month of September, and candidates selected for training will be announced during the October 2024 business meeting.

Let us come together in prayer and discernment as we seek to add to our cadre of deacons to build a strong and supportive faith community. Thank you for your commitment to our church’s life and mission.

Blessings,

Deacon Jeffery Eskridge
